California Wildfire Analysis by County

As part of my GIS Fundamentals course with UC Davis on Coursera we were tasked with doing an analysis and map creation showing the percentage of total land burned in each county. It was interesting to find the “hotspots” where wildfires tend to occur more often and their impact at the county level.

Multiple steps were involved in the geoprocessing and analysis of the provided a CAL FIRE fire perimeter data and California State Board of Equalization, County Boundaries data.

It was a great opportunity to put my learning to use on real world data, see the results and prepare a map layout to help communicate the results to potential stakeholders.
